Fighting Irish Duo Collects All-Ohio Recognition
Two members of the Central Catholic boys’ basketball team earned Division III All-Ohio accolades, the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced on Thursday. Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell was named 2nd-team all-state, and junior Manny Johnson was selected honorable mention All-Ohio.
The All-Ohio teams are based on nominations from the 7 districts of the OPSMA, which vote on the all-district teams from regular-season accomplishments. The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote, and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
A 6-foot-5 sophomore wing, Mack-Russell is garnering all-state recognition for the 2nd-straight year. He became the 2nd CCHS hoopster to collect all-state laurels on multiple occasions in the last 5 years, joining Chico Johnson (Special Mention in 2020-21, 1st-Team in 2021-22). A season ago, Mack-Russell was tabbed D-II honorable mention All-Ohio.
Mack-Russell averaged 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 2024-25. He shot 49.1 percent (163-of-332) from the floor and 80.9 percent (106-of-131) from the free throw line. The 2024-25 D-III All-District 7 Player of the Year scored in double figures on 22 occasions, including a season-high 27 points vs. Michigan Collegiate (February 21).
A 6-foot-3 guard, Johnson registered 12.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.3 apg, and 1.9 spg. He converted 51.9 percent (93-of-179) from the field and 65.5 percent (36-of-55) from the charity stripe. Johnson scored in double digits 12 times, including a season-best tying 21 points on 3 occasions.
This duo helped the Scarlet & Gray win its 4th district title in the last 5 years and make an appearance in the regional semifinals.
