Track & Field Competes at Maumee Relays Invitational in Season Opener

The Central Catholic boys’ & girls’ track & field teams kicked off their respective seasons at the Maumee Relays Invitational on Thursday at Kazmaier Stadium.

Both programs fared very well at their season-opening event. The girls’ squad captured first place in four relays, while the boys’ team secured three first-place finishes.

On the girls’ side, the Fighting Irish placed first in the 4×100 meter, 4×200 meter, 4×400 meter and Sprint Medley events. Senior Tiana Davis was part of a squad-best three winning relays, while junior Jayla Watson, junior Mary Ellis, sophomore Jara Johnson, sophomore Brooklyn Vaughn, sophomore Taylor Scribner and freshman Nyla King were each part of two victorious teams.

On the boys’ side, CCHS crossed the finish line first in the 4×100 meter, 4×200 meter and 4×400 meter relays. The quartet of senior Josh Lee, senior Jacob King, junior Donovan Hooker and junior Solomon King were each members of two first-place teams.

The Fighting Irish will return to the track on Thursday, April 14 for the Springfield Invitational. The one-day event is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm at Springfield High School.
