Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Dustin McLochlin
- What subjects and grade levels do you teach?
I teach American History to mostly sophomores. I also teach Economics, African American History, and Rights and Protests in the 20th Century to juniors and seniors.
- What is your educational background?
I have a PhD in Policy History from Bowling Green State University.
- What did you do before joining the CCHS staffulty?
I was the historian at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums for 9 years before working here. I also taught for over 10 years at BGSU part-time while working at the Hayes.
- What inspired you to become a teacher?
After working in public history for a few years, I felt a strong desire to make a change. I initially was an education major in college but changed my emphasis and decided to go to graduate school. I felt the call to go back to my original interest after working in the history field.
- What made you want to teach at Central Catholic specifically?
Central Catholic is a great place to experience a diversity of students who are interested in receiving an education rooted in faith.
- What do you hope your impact will be on your students?
While I am interested in teaching students about social studies, ultimately, I enjoy being a part of watching students grow and learn in all aspects of life.
- What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
I very much enjoy playing basketball and guitar. Sadly, my enjoyment level is not matched by my skill level. My wife, Kimberly, and I have been married for 21 years and we have 2 children. My son Brixton loves soccer, hockey, and guitar. My daughter Mazzy loves piano, dance, and tennis.
