In 1997, Paul Raczkowski (Class of 1965) was Principal at CCHS. He met with several alumni Band, Glee Club, and Orchestra members to establish the Central Catholic High School Music Hall of Fame. The 1st inductee was a unanimous decision. Committee member Joe Scalzo (’64) stated, “We were looking for somebody who covered the spectrum of Central Catholic music, and Gerald V. DePrisco (‘45) was the obvious choice. Nobody could think of anyone who did more for Central Catholic’s music program than Jerry!” Mr. DePrisco was inducted as the 1st member of the CCHS Music Hall of Fame. He was the chairman of the Music Department from 1955-75, with the department totaling over 650 students.

During the DePrisco days, there were over 650 students in the Music Building 5 days a week. Under Mr. DePrisco’s direction, CCHS had a Marching Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, Senior Glee Club, Junior Glee Club, Freshman Girls’ and Boys’ Chorus, Harmony classes, Music Appreciation classes, and Beginner Instrumental classes. Mr. DePrisco stated “I can’t take a lot of credit for what went on in those days.” You cannot believe the talent we had. And Monsignor Harrington was a great principal, probably one of the finest men I’ve known in my life. I remember he used to say he needed the music schedule so he could schedule the rest of the school around it.
