13 Football Players Collect All-Blade Accolades
Thirteen members of the Central Catholic football team have been named to the All-Blade squad. CCHS’s 13 honorees are the most by any school.
The Fighting Irish, who won their 5th-straight Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) championship this fall, had 5 1st-team selections. That list included senior RB Chris Edmonds, junior OL Marc Nave, junior DL Michael Cannings II, senior LB Cody Schuberg, and senior DB Braden Awls.
Eight Fighting Irish also garnered special mention honors – senior QB Ty’Waun Clark, junior OL Kendric Bankston, junior OL Elijah Williams, senior PK Brian Bishop, senior DL Tyler Jackson, senior LB Deandre Ellis, senior DB Braiden Vargas, and senior P Winston Delp.
The foursome of Awls (1st), Clark (SM), Edmonds (SM), and Jackson (SM) are earning All-Blade recognition for the 2nd-straight fall.
Central Catholic (14-1) will look to secure its 5th OHSAA Division II state championship (1962, 2005, ’12, ’14) when the Scarlet & Gray take on Akron Archbishop Hoban (14-1) on Thursday, Dec. 1 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium (1835 Harrison Ave. NW, Canton, 44708). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm and tomorrow’s matchup will be televised LIVE on Spectrum News 1, the Spectrum app and on OHSAA.tv.
The Fighting Irish have advanced to the state finals for the 5th time (2005, ’12, ’14, ’15, ’22) under Head Coach Greg Dempsey with postseason victories against Ashland, 69-7, Avon Lake, 21-0, Medina Highland, 42-6, Avon, 28-20, and most recently Kings Mills Kings, 52-49.
Tickets for Thursday’s state finals MUST be pre-purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Division II, Select Game). Reminder, no tickets will be available to purchase at the gate. All playoff tickets are General Admission. Tickets will cost $15 for adults and $12 for students.
