17 Football Players Collect All-Northwest District Division II Recognition

Seventeen members of the Central Catholic football team have been named to the Northwest Ohio All-District Division II squad, as selected by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association media panel from the district. CCHS’s 17 honorees are the most by any school, regardless of division.

The Fighting Irish, who won their 5th-straight Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) championship this fall, had 9 1st-team selections. That list included senior RB Chris Edmonds, who shared D-II Offensive Player of the Year honors with Anthony Wayne’s Joe Caswell. Senior LB Cody Schuberg was also selected Defensive Player of the Year, and junior DL Michael Cannings II was tabbed Lineman of the Year.

Joining Edmonds, Schuberg and Cannings on the 1st team were junior OL Kendric Bankston, junior OL Mark Nave, senior PK Brian Bishop, senior LB Deandre Ellis, senior DB Braden Awls, and senior DB Braiden Vargas.

Four Fighting Irish also garnered 2nd-team honors – senior QB Ty’Waun Clark, junior OL Elijah Williams, junior OL Tyrell Green, and senior DL Tyler Jackson, while 4 others collected honorable mention accolades – senior WR Durye’a Hall, senior WR Javon Murphy, junior DB Marvon Greenlee, and senior P Winston Delp.

Central Catholic (12-1) returns to the gridiron against Avon (12-1) tonight in the Region 6 Finals of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II State Playoffs. The opening kick against the Eagles is slated for 7 pm at Perkins High Football Stadium.

Should the Fighting Irish advance to the ‘Final Four,’ they would face either Kings Mills King (12-1) or Cincinnati Anderson (8-5) on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 pm at Wapakoneta Mercy Health Wapak Ford Field.
