After the Bell with CCHS Staffulty Member Kim Bremer

Have you ever wondered what teachers and school staff do when they are not at school?  We decided to find out!

This is the first in a series of stories about some of Central Catholic’s faculty and staff members and what they like to do after the bell rings at the end of the day.  Some have surprising hobbies, others have creative talents.  With this series, we hope to shine a spotlight on the special people who work with our students every day!

Kim Bremer - From Mixing Chemicals to Mixing Ingredients

Kim is beginning her 31st year teaching College Prep, Honors, and AP Chemistry at Central Catholic!  She attended Miami University and the University of Toledo.  Kim has three children who graduated from CCHS - Callie ’18, Bridget ’20, and Jack ’22.

Outside of teaching, Kim loves baking, especially cookies.  “I watched Julia Child on PBS when I was young,” she recalled.  “I always had an interest in the kitchen, however I think my love of baking began when I was invited to a friend's holiday ‘cookie day’ nearly 20 years ago.  We would spend the day baking so many cookies!  She moved away, but I continued the tradition, taking a day to bake anywhere from 15 to 20 different kinds of cookies!  I have always considered it a form of therapy.”

Her hobby became a new side business in January 2023 when Kim created Bremer's Biscuits.  She designs, plans, bakes, packages, delivers, and promotes her own cookies, and she has become quite successful.  In addition to the variety of cookies, she also makes muffins, scones, granola bars, and Amazeballs, which are protein balls that were named by the Irish girls’ tennis team.

Bremer's Biscuits are now available at Tiedtke's Coffee in Maumee, Novel Blends in Bowling Green, and through custom orders.  Business has been steady, and Central Catholic is one of her regular customers.  Kim has made cookies for the Homecoming Dance last fall, a luncheon after the Advent Pilgrimage in December, for baskets at the annual Scholarship Gala, and for a colleague's retirement.  This past summer, she also led a baking camp on campus for grade school students.

Kim has made cookies for former students and colleagues, friends, and new customers for occasions such as bridal and baby showers, baptisms. birthdays, other special events, and for the staff at Magee Marsh for the Biggest Week in American Birding.  She has also held cookie classes at Tiedtke's.

Kim originally considered opening a brick and mortar bakery when she retires from teaching, but now that dream has changed to having a food truck, which will bring Bremer's Biscuits to you for special occasions.  Stay tuned for future sweet developments!
