Boys’ Basketball Looks to Continue Post-Season Run vs. Lima Shawnee on Wednesday in D-III Regional Semifinals
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team will look to continue its impressive post-season run against Lima Shawnee on Wednesday, March 5 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III Regional Semifinals in Savage Arena. The opening tip against the Indians (23-2) is slated for 8 p.m. on the campus of the University of Toledo.
Tickets for tomorrow’s neutral-site contest MUST be pre-purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Basketball, Basketball – Boys, Division III, March 5, Select Game). Tickets will cost $11 for adults and $5 for students. PLEASE NOTE, UToledo is charging $10 for parking in Parking Areas 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10. Head Coach Mike Floyd and the Fighting Irish have advanced to the Regional Semifinals for the 4th time in the last 5 years following 30-plus point victories vs. Fremont Ross and Sylvania Southview.
As a team, CCHS is averaging a whopping 78.5 points in its postseason wins against the Little Giants and Cougars. Individually, sophomore Cayden Kynard is contributing a squad-best 16.5 points, followed closely by classmate Isaiah Mack-Russell and junior Draden Wardrop at 16.0 and 14.0 ppg, respectively.
Lima Shawnee is coached by Mark Triplett. A member of the Western Buckeye League, the Indians are led in scoring by junior Beckett Bertke and sophomore Trevick Bertke at 20.4 and 19.2 ppg. Beckett Bertke is also tallying a team-high 8.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists, while Trevick Bertke is registering a squad-best 2.5 steals.
Should Central Catholic make it to the Regional Finals, it will face the winner of Lutheran West and Sandusky on Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m. in Savage Arena.
