Boys’ Basketball Ousts Tiffin Columbian in District Final, 64-45

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team tallied a 64-45 victory against Tiffin Columbian on Saturday in the Division II District Final at Lake High School. With the double-digit neutral-court win, CCHS improves to 20-5 on the season.

The top-seeded Fighting Irish, who will make their second straight trip to the “Sweet 16,” will face Gilmour Academy (20-5) in a regional semifinal on Thursday, March 10 at 6 pm in the Stroh Center on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The Lancers advanced to regionals by beating Akron Buchtel 84-70 in today’s district final at North Ridgeville.

2021-22 District VII Player of the Year junior Chico Johnson paced CCHS with a game-high 22 points. Senior Sam Lee added 15 points and 10 rebounds to post a double-double.

Logan Beaston led Tiffin Columbian (19-6) with 13 points, Cyrus Burden had 11, and Jaden Myers added seven.

In the other regional semifinal at BGSU on Thursday, St. Marys Memorial will compete against Huron at 8 pm. The regional final is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at 4 pm in the Stroh Center.
