Boys’ Basketball Prevails Late at Gilmour Academy, 68-64
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team wrapped up 2024 with a 68-64 victory against Gilmour Academy on Tuesday in the Lancer Gymnasium. With the non-league win, the Fighting Irish improve to 5-1 on the season.
CCHS outscored the Lancers 14-10 in the pivotal 4th period to successfully bounce back from its 1st loss this year.
Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell paced the Scarlet & Gray with a season-high 25 points and 7 rebounds. A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell has poured in at least 20 points on 3 occasions this season.
Junior Draden Wardrop also contributed 11 points in the non-conference matchup, followed closely by the trio of junior Kaeden Carruthers, junior Manny Johnson, and sophomore Cayden Kynard with 10, 8, and 7 points, respectively.
Carruthers added a squad-best 10 boards to post his 2nd double-double in 2024-25, while Kynard nearly totaled a double-double dishing out a team-high 9 assists.
Nick Iliano led Gilmour Academy with 23 points, while Zac Titas and David Pfundstein tallied 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Earlier in the day, the CCHS freshman team claimed a 68-56 victory vs. GA, while the junior varsity squad dropped a 59-58 decision in double overtime.
