CCHS Education is Worth the Investment!!!

Central Catholic is a college preparatory school that offers challenging academics, on par with any other high school around. Our student to teacher ratio is 15:1, allowing our teachers to give students more individual attention. Classes offer great preparation for both college and careers.

Central Catholic follows the Diocesan curriculum, which is based on the Ohio Standards. We are accredited by the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association and must report to them annually to ensure compliance. These are our minimum academic standards, and we also incorporate honors-level and college-level standards in honors and AP classes. Additionally, specific disciplines have their own guidelines that need to be followed, such as a coding curriculum and standards for our computer science class.

Central Catholic’s curriculum is rigorous and our various courses and levels challenge students appropriately in several ways:

• The incorporation of problem-solving, critical thinking, and other intentional 21st-century learning goals across all content areas.

• A variety of instruction intentionally targeting different depths of knowledge and cognitive rigor benchmarks.

• Our innovative and collaborative teachers regularly engage in professional development pertaining to their field, including in-house sessions, group book studies, professional and international message boards, and off-campus conferences.

The strength of Central Catholic’s academic programs is demonstrated by several things:

• Our course offerings compare to and even rise above those offered at other high schools, from Advanced Placement courses in every content area (including all the available AP science offerings), to an ever-evolving and improving offering of electives meant to prepare students for college and career.

• The success of our students in gaining admission and scholarships to top colleges and universities, and the impact they make once on those campuses.

• There are eight periods in a day, allowing for maximum curricular impact, but it also allows for our students to be involved outside of the classroom and lead a well-balanced life, as they can often use a period during the day for study hall or individualized help.

“We have alumni come back all the time and say that CCHS prepared them well for college and/or their career,” said Principal Morgan (Delp) Connors. “I recently ran into a classmate of mine from CCHS at Mercy St. Vincent, where she is a resident emergency medicine doctor. She studied at Fordham University. I also ran into a former student of mine at the grocery store who came up to me and shook my hand, excited to tell me he is paying his way through the University of Toledo. They both credit Central Catholic for their preparation to balance a heavy class load with a focus on their faith and relationships, as well.

“We tend to stand out because, while many students on college campuses were prepared with the same honors courses that our students were, and prepared and scored well on the same standardized tests, our students also have experienced opportunities for scholarship, leadership, and service within a student body that rivals the diversity of any other place of secondary education in our area. What a huge advantage when facing college and the life experiences beyond!”

CCHS offers every AP science class available, as well as honors and AP music, Spanish, and art. This year, we partnered with the Toledo Symphony - thanks to a sizable anonymous donation - so that our music students received one-on-one instruction from professionals weekly, culminating in a joint concert for the whole school in February. Our technology classes have nearly doubled over the past several years, with the addition of AP computer science principles this year. We offer two in-house college courses every year in the Theology department.

Central Catholic also offers the College Credit Plus program. Many of our students benefit from this opportunity to earn college credit for free, while also earning honors credits towards their CCHS diploma. The curriculum includes career-focused courses, like Landmark Supreme Court Cases for those interested in law; Introduction to Education, for students interested in becoming teachers; and Chemistry in Life, which takes a practical, hands-on approach to chemistry and features a new lab. Our business courses include general business, accounting, and marketing, and all freshmen take a financial literacy course in their first semester.
