Central Catholic Announces 2021 Football Schedule

Central Catholic has released its 2021 football schedule, Athletics Director/Head Coach Greg Dempsey (Class of 1990) recently announced. The Fighting Irish are slated to play 10 regular-season games under the direction of Dempsey, who enters his 22nd season at his alma mater, including five at the friendly confines of Gallagher Stadium.

Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s fall schedule will be their home opener against four-time Division I state champion Lakewood St. Edward on Friday, Aug. 20.

Central Catholic’s other two non-league games will be on the road against Cleveland Benedictine on Saturday, Aug. 28 and Olentangy Orange on Friday, Sept. 3. The combined record of CCHS’s three non-conference opponents was a respectable 14-11 during the virus-shortened 2020 campaign.

Additional highlights to Central Catholic’s schedule will be home contests against rivals Whitmer on Oct. 8 and St. Francis de Sales on Oct. 22. Central Catholic will look to win its 19th-consecutive game against the Knights and successfully hold onto the Irish/Knight Trophy.

Last fall, the Fighting Irish finished 6-1 overall, a perfect 4-0 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, and secured their third-straight league title and seventh in the last eight years. They also advanced to the third round of the OHSAA Division II State Playoffs.
