Central Catholic Announces Alumna Corri Stanley as Girls’ Basketball Coach

Central Catholic’s new girls’ basketball coach is a familiar face: Corri (Helldobler) Stanley (Class of 2003), Athletic Director Greg Dempsey announced on Monday.

“We’re very excited to have Corri as our girls’ basketball coach,” Dempsey said. “She did an outstanding job leading the program in the past, and we’re thrilled for her to be leading the program in the future.”

Stanley coached within the girls’ basketball program for 12 seasons from 2008-20. She was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant before holding the head varsity coaching position for six years (2014-20).

Stanley helped lead the Fighting Irish to two Three Rivers Athletic Conference championships (2014-15, 2015-16) and five district tournament appearances (2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20).

For the 2014-15 season, she was named the TRAC Coach of the Year. Stanley also was the District 7 Coaches Association Division 2 Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 campaign. Her all-time career record as head coach for the Scarlet & Gray is 98-44.

"It’s an honor to once again have the opportunity to lead the Irish girls’ basketball team, a program I care so deeply about,” said Stanley, who’s in her 16th year teaching at her alma mater. “I’m excited to work with a group of incredible young ladies and look forward to guiding them to continued success."

As a student-athlete, Stanley played under Coach Steve Pfahler for three seasons (2000-03), a span that included three City League championships, a Division I state semifinal appearance her sophomore year, and a No. 1 final state ranking her senior year.

She later played collegiate basketball at Adrian College, where she majored in history education and minored in business administration. On the hardwood for the Bulldogs, Stanley was twice selected All-MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) Honorable Mention in 2003-04 & 2004-05.

Stanley inherits a team that posted a 22-2 overall ledger this past winter, including a 13-1 mark in the TRAC. Ranked No. 3 in the final Associated Press D-II state poll, Central Catholic captured its second-straight conference championship in the league’s final season.
