Central Catholic Competes at TRAC Track & Field Championship

The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams competed at the Three Rivers Athletic Conference Championship over the weekend at the Cooper Tire Track.

The Fighting Irish girls’ squad finished 2nd among 8 schools with 110 points, while the boys’ team placed tied for 4th with 81 points.

The girls’ team secured 6 1st-place finishes at the 2-day event hosted by Findlay High School, while the boys’ team captured the top spot in 3 events.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Nyla King was part of a squad-best 4 1st-place finishes, en route to being named the Female Runner of the Meet. Individually, King crossed the finish line ahead of the competition in the 100-meter (12.37) and 200-meter dash (25.03), successfully winning both races for the 2nd-straight year. She also was part of the winning team in the 4×100-meter (49.14) and 4×200-meter relays (1.42.06).

Also capturing 1st-place finishes for the girls’ team in individual events were senior Mary Ellis in the 400-meter dash (58.70) and junior Brooklyn Vaughn in the long jump (17’1”).

In the victorious relays, the duo of senior Jayla Watson and junior Taylor Scribner also competed with King in both races, while junior Jara Johnson took part in the 4x100-meter, while Ellis ran a leg in the 4x200-meter.

On the boys’ side, senior Solomon King notched a team-high 3 1st-place finishes. Individually, King successfully defended his championship in the 100-meter (10.69) and 200-meter dash (21.33). He also ran the 3rd leg of the victorious 4x100-meter relay (42.63) and was selected as the Male Runner of the Meet.

The team of senior Donovan Hooker, freshman Ian Smith, and senior RJ Maddox Jr. also competed in the victorious 4x100-meter relay, along with King.

The Fighting Irish will return to the track on Thursday, May 18 for the Division II District Championship at Oak Harbor High School. The 2nd day of the district meet will take place on Saturday, May 20.
