Central Catholic Music Department to Present 92nd Spring Musical
The Central Catholic music department is excited to announce its 92nd spring musical production, Into the Woods! The show will take place Thursday, April 29 through Sunday, May 2 in the Central Catholic Auditorium/Front Gym, connecting our current students to the place where our musical history began. The gym will be transformed into an enchanted wooded setting, and students are thrilled to take the stage to share their talents with an in-person audience once again.
The musicals were last held at Central Catholic for the productions of Man of La Mancha in 1971 and Carousel in 1972.
“Here at Central Catholic, we believe in the power of music,” said Rebecca Buckman, Central Catholic’s Director of Vocal Music. “Hans Christian Anderson said, ‘Where words fail, music speaks.’ We are thrilled to be able to present our 92nd spring musical, Into the Woods, to a live audience. A pandemic year has left many feeling lost or lonely, and we thought bringing people home to CCHS for this big event would help them realize that ‘no one is alone.’”
“I’m so happy that we’re performing in person again this year,” added junior Brynn Drabek, who plays the baker’s wife in the production. “It’s great to all be together again and to be able to continue the tradition. Performing at Central Catholic is an adjustment, but I think it may be more accessible for some people than the Valentine Theatre. And it’s awesome to know that we’re doing what students used to do years ago by performing here. Everything's coming together, and I’m so excited for people to see the show!”
The story of Into the Woods involves well-known fairy tale characters and their journeys to achieve their hearts’ desires. While the characters pursue their own treasures, their stories become intertwined and altered until they find they must work toward the same goal and adjust to the unexpected outcomes of their “happily ever afters.”
