Central Catholic Named “Best Private High School” in The Blade Readers’ Choice Poll
Central Catholic High School has been named “Best Private High School” in The Blade Readers’ Choice Awards. This is the first year for these awards that provide an opportunity to celebrate excellence and highlight the many outstanding people, places, and events throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
The Blade Readers’ Choice Awards honor the best in 160 different categories. Nominations began in early March, and then the Top 6 vote-getters in each category were placed on a ballot for The Blade readers to vote on through April 11. The winners were announced today in a special section of The Blade, eBlade, and on toledoblade.com.
Central Catholic is honored to have been chosen by the community for this award. For over a century, Central Catholic has been a cornerstone of the Toledo community. As we celebrated our 100th graduating class in 2020, we reflected on the legacy Central Catholic has left behind. This legacy, rooted in faith-formation programs, classroom experiences, and extracurricular opportunities has been made a reality due to our amazing students, alumni, donors, and friends.
“We are extremely delighted to be recognized as the Best Private High School in the inaugural Blade Readers' Choice Awards,” said Mike Boyle, Class of 1970. “This recognition is a testament to our outstanding administration, faculty, staff, and students. As an alumnus and current Chair of the Board of Directors, I couldn't be more proud!”
“I had a great experience at Central Catholic when I attended, and I was thrilled that my children chose to attend Central Catholic as well,” said Stacy Bruno, 1989 graduate and mother of Joe Bruno, Class of 2020, and current junior Christine Bruno. “The challenging academic environment is a great preparation for college and career. The caring and engaging teachers and extracurricular activities at Central Catholic really made it the best choice for me and my family.”
The Class of 2021 Valedictorian, Krista Roessle, said, “I could not have had a better high school experience than the one I've had at Central Catholic. CCHS has both the academic rigor and multitude of extracurriculars I was looking for, but also has the familial aspect and loving community for which we've become renowned. I could not have gotten into Cornell University without the support that Central provides, and I know I'll be better prepared for the next chapter of my life because of it.”
This is the second “Best Private School” award that Central Catholic High School has received this year! In March, CCHS was named the “Best Private School” in the Toledo City Paper’s Best of Toledo 2020.
“We are excited to be named the top private school in the inaugural Blade Readers’ Choice Award,” added Kevin Parkins, Central Catholic’s Head of School. “For over 100 years, Central Catholic High School has been forming our region's leaders, and we are excited to continue that mission! Being named the best private school twice in the same year is a testament to the amazing faculty, staff, and administration of Central Catholic High School. Their commitment to our students helps CCHS thrive!”
