Central Catholic Takes Part in Cardinal Division CHSL Track & Field Championship

The Central Catholic boys’ and girls’ track & field teams competed at the Cardinal Division Catholic High School League Championship on Friday at Macomb Lutheran North High School.

The Fighting Irish boys’ squad finished 2nd among 5 schools with 138 points, while the girls’ team placed 5th among 7 schools with 57 points.

The boys’ team secured 9 1st-place finishes (6 individuals, 3 relays) at the 1-day meet, while the girls’ squad captured the top spot in 4 events (4 individuals).

On the boys’ side, senior Jaylen Watson was part of 4 1st-place finishes.  Watson crossed the finish line ahead of the competition in the 100-meter (11.05) and 200-meter dash (22.19).  He also was part of the winning team in the 4×100-meter (43.87) and 4×200-meter relays (1.30.91).

Also registering 1st-place finishes for the boys’ team in individual events were junior Jerry Barnes in the 800-meter dash (2:04.67), sophomore Victor Singleton, Jr. in the long jump (21-00.50), senior Tim Ciboro II in the discus (148-05.00), and senior Elijah Williams in the shot put (49-04.50).

In the victorious relays, the trio of sophomores Jayse Daniels, Ian Smith, and Jerome Davis also competed with Watson in 4x100, while Singleton, Davis, and junior Anthony Lawrence, Jr. each ran a leg in the 4x200.

The Scarlet & Gray also won 1st place in the 4x400-meter relay (3:31.02) behind the efforts of Singleton, Barnes, Lawrence, and Davis.

On the girls’ side, junior Nyla King won the 100-meter (12.45), 200-meter (25.50), and 400-meter dash (58.26), while classmate Aaliyah McClure tallied the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles (50.30).

The Fighting Irish will return to the track on Thursday, May 16 for the Division II OHSAA District Championship at 4 p.m. at Oak Harbor High School. The 2nd day of the district meet will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m.
