Chico Johnson Named First-Team All-Ohio

Central Catholic boys’ basketball player Chico Johnson experienced one of the best seasons in program history in 2021-22. Johnson was awarded for his outstanding efforts on the hardwood by being named Division II first-team All-Ohio on Tuesday according to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

A junior, Johnson is earning all-state recognition for the second-straight year. He becomes the first CCHS hoopster to garner all-state laurels on two occasions since Jermaine Tate accomplished that feat in 1993-94 and 1994-95. A season ago, Johnson was selected special mention All-Ohio.

This past winter, Johnson averaged 15.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He scored in double figures on 21 occasions, pouring in a season-high 29 points against Fremont Ross on Jan. 4.

Johnson is currently ranked as ESPN’s No. 8 overall player and No. 3 point guard in Ohio for the Class of 2023.

Johnson played an integral role in the Fighting Irish posting a 20-6 overall record in 2021-22 and helping the Scarlet & Gray capture their second-straight district title.
