Fighting Irish Quartet Garner All-CHSL Accolades
Four members of the Central Catholic boys’ basketball team garnered All-CHSL accolades, the Catholic High School League announced on Tuesday.
Junior Manny Johnson and sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell were named to the All-Catholic Team, junior Draden Wardrop received All-League honors, and senior Dominic Spinazze II collected All-Academic accolades.
Johnson and Mack-Russell are earning all-conference recognition for the 2nd-straight year. A season ago, they both registered All-League laurels.
Mack-Russell is currently averaging 18.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 26.2 minutes per game. A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell is shooting 48.1 percent (114-of-237) from the field and 81.5 percent (88-of-108) from the free-throw line. He has scored in double figures on 17 occasions, including 20-plus points 9 times. Mack-Russell poured in a season-high 26 points vs. St. John’s Jesuit on January 17.
Johnson is contributing 13.2 points, 3.9 helpers, and 2.2 steals in 24.1 minutes per contest. He is converting 52.2 percent (83-of-159) from the floor and 61.4 percent (27-of-44) from the charity stripe. A 2-year starter on the hardwood, Johnson has tallied double-digit points on 11 occasions, including a season-best tying 21 points 3 times.
Wardrop is tallying 12.7 points, 3.4 boards, 2.4 dimes, and 1.5 thefts in 24.4 minutes per game. He is shooting 51.3 percent (81-of-158) from the field, including 42.4 percent (36-of-85) from 3-point land, and 60.8 percent (31-of-51) from the free-throw line. Wardrop has dropped in 10-plus points on 12 occasions, including a season-best 26 points against Start on February 4.
Spinazze, who is logging 5.2 minutes per game, is a member of the Insignis Society and ranked in the Top 12 in the Class of 2025.
Head Coach Mike Floyd and the Fighting Irish will return to the hardwood against rival St. Francis de Sales on Monday, February 17 at approximately 6 p.m. in The Pit.
