5 Baseball Players Earn All-District Laurels; Jaxon Sanchez Selected to 1st Team

Five members of the Central Catholic baseball team have been named to the All-District Division II squad. 

Junior Jaxon Sanchez was awarded a spot on the 1st team, senior Cody Markus and junior Kyle Wasserman were tabbed to the 2nd team, and senior Winston Delp and senior Brian Bishop earned honorable mention accolades.

Sanchez is currently hitting a TRAC-best .491 (26-for-53) with a squad-high 28 runs scored, 2 home runs, and a team-tying best 12 RBI.

Markus has tallied a 3-0 record with a team-best 0.59 ERA in 23.2 innings on the mound. He has allowed 2 runs (both earned) on 13 hits with a squad-high 43 strikeouts. Markus is also hitting .348 (10-for-32) with 5 runs scored, 10 RBI, and 7 stolen bases.

Wasserman is batting .333 (22-for-66) with 16 runs scored, 1 round tripper, and a squad-tying best 12 RBI. He is currently 2nd on the team in hits and thefts (9).

Delp is hitting .333 (19-for-62) with 13 runs scored and a team-tying high 12 RBI. A 2-way player, he also has registered a 3-1 mark with a 1.35 ERA in 26.0 frames on the hill. Delp has yielded 11 runs (5 earned) on 28 hits with 16 punchouts. He currently sits tied for 1st on the team in wins, as well as ranking 2nd in ERA, and 3rd in stolen bases (8), innings pitched, and strikeouts.

Bishop is batting .300 (21-for-70) with 28 runs scored, 6 RBI, and a squad-best 10 thefts.

This spring, the Fighting Irish has posted a 13-10 overall record, including a 7-6 ledger in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC).

CCHS returns to the diamond against Rossford in the D-II District Semifinal on Thursday, May 25. The opening pitch against the Bulldogs is slated for 6:30 pm at Archbold High School.
