Football Pounds St. Francis de Sales to Secure Fourth-Straight TRAC Title, 49-7

The Central Catholic football team wrapped up its regular season in fine fashion with a 49-7 victory against St. Francis de Sales on Friday at Gallagher Stadium. With the impressive win, the Fighting Irish improved to 8-2 overall, 7-0 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

CCHS scored five touchdowns in the first half to set the tone versus the arch-rival Knights (4-6, 2-5 TRAC), helping the Scarlet & Gray secure its fourth-straight TRAC championship. More importantly, the Fighting Irish registered their 20th-consecutive win in the series and successfully hold onto the coveted Irish-Knight Trophy. Central Catholic has not lost to its rival since 2003.

Junior QB Ty'Waun Clark threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two to spark the CCHS offense. Senior WR Josh Lee caught two TD passes from Clark and senior WR Sam Lee had the other TD grab, helping stretch Central Catholic’s winning streak to eight-straight games. In addition, junior RB Chris Edmonds aided the cause with a 95-yard TD burst.

During its win streak, CCHS has defeated Olentangy Orange, Findlay, St. John’s Jesuit, Lima Senior, Oregon Clay, Whitmer, Fremont Ross & St. Francis de Sales by a combined score of 321-47.

The Fighting Irish, who have now won 25-consecutive games against TRAC opponents, will wait until Sunday to find out their first-round postseason opponent when the OHSAA State Playoff pairings are announced.
