Football Ventures to Detroit Catholic Central on Friday for CHSL Opener
The Central Catholic football team will hit the road for the 1st time this fall against Detroit Catholic Central (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 6 at Fr. Richard Elmer Stadium. The opening kick vs. the Shamrocks is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Fighting Irish (2-0), who are picked to successfully defend their Central Division championship in the CHSL, are coming off a 27-17 triumph vs. Whitmer before a capacity crowd in Gallagher Stadium.
Senior RB Tyler Morgan led the 2-time reigning state champions with 158 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries against the Panthers (1-1), helping CCHS record its 6th-straight victory vs. its crosstown rival.
Junior RB Anthony Sylvester added 105 yards on 20 rushes and 1 TD, as CCHS extended its school-record winning streak to 33-consecutive games.
Overall this fall, senior QB Isaiah Fox has completed 26-of-37 passes for 322 yards and 2 TDs, while Morgan has rushed for a team-high 299 yards with 4 scores on 39 carries. Sylvester is not too far behind Morgan for ground production, tallying 204 yards and 4 TDs on 28 rushes.
DCC, which was picked 2nd in the CHSL Preseason Coaches’ Poll, began its fall campaign with a 56-12 victory at Dearborn on August 29.
CCHS and the Shamrocks will square off on the gridiron for the 6th time since 2005. Central Catholic has won the 5 previous meetings, most recently registering a 42-21 home victory last fall in its CHSL debut. 1st-team All-Ohio RB Marquan Braswell led Central Catholic with 156 yards on 22 carries, including a 6-yard TD run. Morgan also had a solid effort rushing the ball, finishing with 95 yards on 18 attempts, scoring on runs of 1, 5, and 18 yards.
Central Catholic will return to the field against Brother Rice (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 13 as part of Homecoming Weekend. The opening kick against the Warriors is slated for 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium.
Last fall, CCHS secured a 33-7 triumph vs. Brother Rice at Blue Devils Stadium on the campus of Lawrence Tech University. Braswell found the end zone on a season-high 4 occasions to fuel the Scarlet & Gray offense. QB Terry Collins, Jr. also completed 6-of-11 passes for 172 yards and 1 TD, connecting with WR Jaylen Watson on a 60-yard TD pass on the game’s 1st offensive play.
