Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Angelica Johnson

- What does a college and career advisor do?
I serve as a resource for students and their families, dedicated to ensuring our students' success after graduation.  For students interested in post secondary education, I assist with college, financial aid, and scholarship applications, in addition to helping students prepare for the college journey.  For students entering the workforce post-graduation, I help identify various career paths aligned with their passions and interests.

- What is your educational background?
I graduated from Roy C. Start High School.  I received a bachelor's degree in life science from Bowling Green State University (Go Falcons!) and a Master of Arts degree in counseling from the University of Toledo.  I am currently a 5th-year doctoral student in the Sociological Foundations of Education Program at UToledo.

- What did you do before joining the CCHS staff?
I previously held the title of program coordinator for the Like Me program at Lourdes University.  The mission of the Like Me program is to attract, prepare, and mentor students of color to obtain employment in partner schools to address the significant disparity between students of color and teachers of color.  I also served 7 years at the University of Toledo in various roles.

- What inspired you to become a college and career advisor?
I am passionate about supporting students as they navigate the intricacies of adulthood after high school.  Whether they are entering college or the workforce, having a plan is vital, and having someone that believes in your success no matter which track you choose is even more important.  I want to be a resource to students that know their path in life, and a beacon of support for those that need additional assistance.

- What made you want to work at Central Catholic specifically?
The support from alumni and the community highlights the uniqueness of this institution.  I am eager to contribute to its reputation and the support it offers to students.  Just as this school makes a lasting impact on the community, I aspire to be a part of that legacy.

- What are your goals in working with our students?
My goals for working with students are to begin college and career preparation the moment they step foot into Central Catholic’s doors. I want to instill the importance of having a Plan A, B, and C.  I want to help students gain confidence in their capabilities and to know they are supported in whatever decision they make to progress their future.

- What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family, read, and enjoy each day, as tomorrow is never promised.

- Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I am a bonafide geek!  I love all things fantasy, with a special interest in werewolves, vampires, and creature folklore.  My favorite movies are Lord of the Rings (trilogy), Overboard (1987), and Goodfellas
