Girl’s Basketball Duo Earn All-Ohio Laurels
Central Catholic girls’ basketball players Brooklyn Vaughn and Corniya Clay garnered All-Ohio Division II recognition on Tuesday according to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Vaughn was named 1st-team All-Ohio, while Clay was selected honorable mention all-state.
The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote, and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
A junior, Vaughn is earning all-state laurels for the 2nd-straight year. A season ago, Vaughn was tabbed honorable mention All-Ohio. The 5-foot-11 forward averaged 15.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game in 2022-23, totaling 19 double-doubles.
Vaughn becomes the 6th player in program history to be picked 1st-team All-Ohio, joining Ericka Haney (1997 & 1998), Courtney Mix (2000), Kelley Helvey (2003), Jessica Minnfield (2005), and most recently Byrdy Galernik (2016).
A junior, Clay contributed 13.7 points per contest this past winter.
Vaughn and Clay helped the Scarlet & Gray post a 22-2 overall ledger in 2022-23, including a 13-1 mark in the TRAC. Ranked No. 3 in the final Associated Press D-II state poll, CCHS captured its 2nd-straight conference championship in the league’s final season.
