Girls’ Basketball Knocks Off Maumee in Division III District Semifinals, 52-35
The No. 5 seed Central Catholic girls’ basketball team knocked off No. 3 seed Maumee, 52-35, in the Division III District Semifinals on Wednesday at Northwood High School. With the post-season win, CCHS improves to 8-15 overall.
The Fighting Irish outscored the Panthers, 38-19, over the course of the final 3 quarters, helping them advance to the District Finals for a 2nd-straight year. The Scarlet & Gray trailed Maumee, 16-14, after 8 minutes before taking control of the neutral-court matchup.
Junior Serinity Bolden paced 4 Fighting Irish in double figures with 13 points, followed closely by junior Marissa Justin, sophomore Madison Stricker, and junior Nina Stevens with 11, 10, and 10 points, respectively.
Lucy Porter tallied a game-high 19 points to lead Maumee (17-7).
Central Catholic will now face No. 1 seed Notre Dame in the District Finals on Saturday, February 22 at 4 p.m. at Northwood. The Eagles (18-6) rolled past No. 7 seed St. Ursula Academy, 68-24, in the other District Semifinal contest. Tickets for Saturday’s matchup must be purchased at ohsaa.org/tickets.
