Girls’ Basketball Outlasts Lumen Christi, 50-49, to Collect 1st Win of Season

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team outlasted host Lumen Christi, 50-49, on Friday in a Catholic High School League matchup.  With the 1-point triumph, the Fighting Irish improve to 1-4 overall, 1-1 in the Central East Division.

Junior Nina Stevens poured in a career-high 29 points to pace the Scarlet & Gray, helping 1st-year Head Coach Clifton Hodges collect his 1st win patrolling the sidelines.  Stevens was lethal from the perimeter, knocking down 3 triples in the 1st half.  She has now led CCHS in scoring in 3 of the 1st 5 games this season.

Junior captain Serinity Bolden chipped in 9 points in the road victory, followed closely by classmate Marissa Justen with 6 points.

Kenna Hunt led the host Titans (2-1, 0-1 CHSL) with a game-high 30 points.

The Fighting Irish will return to the hardwood against Akron Archbishop Hoban on Saturday, December 21 at the Anthony Wayne Invite.  The opening tip vs. the Knights is slated for 5:30 p.m. on the campus of AW High School.
