Track & Field Excels at Division II Regional Championship
The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams competed at the Division II Regional Championship on Thursday and Saturday at Lexington High School.
The Fighting Irish girls’ squad finished runner up with 56 points, while the boys’ team also placed second with 66 points.
The girls’ team secured three first-place finishes at the two-day meet, while the boys’ team captured the top spot in four events. The Top 4 finishers in each event qualify for this week’s State Championship.
On the girls’ side, freshman Nyla King secured an individual title, crossing the finish line first in the 100-meter dash (12.49). King also ran the anchor leg of the winning team in the 4×100-meter relay (48.39) and 4×200-meter relay (1:42.06). Both relays established a new meet record.
In the relay’s, senior Tianna Davis and sophomore Taylor Scribner were both part of the record-setting winning 4x100- and 4x200- meter teams. Scribner also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.64).
In addition, junior Mary Ellis was a member of the victorious 4x200-meter relay and placed third in the 400-meter dash (57.65). Ellis also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay (4:00.81) that finished second.
On the boys’ side, junior Solomon King placed first in both the 100- (10.83) and 200-meter dash (22.01) and ran the anchor leg of the victorious 4×200-meter relay (1:27.80).
Joining Solomon King is the record-setting relay were senior Sam Lee, senior Jacob King and senior Josh Lee.
In addition, Sam Lee finished third in the 400-meter dash (49.97) and fourth in the high jump (6’4”). He also ran the third leg of the winning 4x-400-meter relay (3:21.09).
Other members of the victorious 4x400-meter relay included senior Lance Washington-Roscoe, Josh Lee and Jacob King.
Also, Josh Lee also finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (39.47).
The Fighting Irish will return to the track on Friday and Saturday, June 3-4 for the Division II State Championship on the campus of The Ohio State University. Both days of competition will begin at 9:30 am at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
In the boys’ meet, Solomon King will be the No. 1 seed in the 100-meter dash, while the 4x200-meter relay team of Sam Lee, Jacob King, Josh Lee, and Solomon King will also be the top seed.
On the girls’ side, the 4x100-meter relay of Tianna Davis, Taylor Scribner, Jara Johnson, and Nyla King and the 4x200-meter relay of Davis, Scribner, Ellis, and Nyla King will be the No. 1 seed.
