Women’s History Month Q&A with Julie Hegedus

Julie Hegedus is in her 7th year as the Vice President of Finance & Human Resources at Central Catholic High School.

Julie earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Michigan State University. Since graduation, almost all of her employment history has been with non-profit organizations. Julie realized very early in her professional career that she feels more connected to non-profits & their missions & visions. Ultimately, that realization is what led Julie to CCHS in August of 2015.

Julie & her CCHS alumnus husband, Justin (Class of 1995), have twin boys, Dylan & Tyler, who are freshmen at Central Catholic.


What advice would you give to women in your respective field? 
No matter how long you have been in a particular job or with an employer, never stop asking questions and looking from different viewpoints. What worked in the past may no longer be the best option going forward. Also, don't be afraid to speak up! 


Tell us about a woman you look up to & why. 
I have been surrounded by some amazing women in my life - my sister, mother, step-mother, mother-in-law, grandmothers, as well as close friends and colleagues. Each of these females has their own characteristic that I admire and hope to emulate in some small way.


If you could pick any historical female to have dinner with, who would it be and why?There are so many important historical females, it would be impossible to pick just one. I would much rather have dinner with a group of amazing women like Mother Theresa, Anne Frank, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, to name a few. In a setting like that I'd be able to hear them tell their stories, but also see first-hand who they are as individuals and what their personalities were like. I would feel like I had the opportunity to really get to know them better.


What does Women’s History Month mean to you? 
I've come to appreciate this month much more as an adult than I did when I was younger. There will never be enough days to highlight all of the females that have paved the way for others, but I appreciate the impact social media can have in this regard. Younger girls have more exposure to strong women whom they can look up to and learn from.


What do you appreciate most about Central Catholic High School?
I appreciate the welcoming nature of the community and the ever-present feeling of family. CCHS alumni, students and parents, and staffulty have an immense sense of pride in the school and its history. I feel so blessed to be a part of it!
