Sophia Farrugia Tabbed Student of the Month for March
Senior Sophia Farrugia is the Student Council President, National Honor Society President, the Glee Club President, and a member of the Insignis Society, the Sideline Spirit Core Team, the Spiritual Commission Core Team, and the IrishTHON Core Team. She is an Irish Ambassador, and she plays varsity volleyball and basketball.
“I chose to attend Central Catholic because I knew I would love the family atmosphere,” said Sophia, a 2-time All-League selection in volleyball. “I’ve grown up around the community and have always been proud to be Irish. My grandpa, mom, aunts, uncles, and siblings all attended Central Catholic, and I was excited to contribute to the legacy.
“Central Catholic is one of a kind. There are so many different things that you can get involved in. Whether you are interested in sports, arts, academics, or anything else, there is something for everyone. The best part is the people. I have met so many extraordinary people here, including teachers, students, and alumni. The teachers genuinely care about all the students and have helped me get to where I am today. I have formed connections with my classmates that I will hold with me forever and made memories that will last a lifetime.”
“Most days, I think Sophia could be student of the year,” said Mallory Lenhart, Social Studies teacher. “She is the hardest working person in every classroom, in every gym, and on every stage. She is also at the top of her class and somehow juggles being involved in everything!”
Sophia, who received All-League and All-Academic CHSL accolades on the hardwood this past winter, plans to study cellular and molecular biology in college. She is undecided about where she will attend.
