Mrs. Karri Adler’s Algebra 2

Mrs. Karri Adler’s Algebra 2 classes worked in pairs to find the rate of change in a line containing two points.  The students were given two playing cards to use as the coordinates. For example, a red 3 and a black queen would represent the point (-3, 12).  They repeated the exercise four times, each time with a different partner.

The purpose of the exercise was to practice finding the rate of change with points chosen in a random way.  The students worked together and learned from each other while moving around the room.

Mrs. Adler’s Pre-Calculus class worked in pairs or groups to explore how changing a function’s equation causes its graph to be transformed.  The students were given an equation for a function and then worked together to graph the function, along with its parent function, on large graphing paper.  Then they examined the graphs and equations to discover how the changes in the equation changed the graph of the function.
