CCHS Provides Alumni Career Panel for Current Students

Central Catholic’s College and Career Department is providing a career panel to students interested in specific careers.  The school has invited alumni from various professions to share their experiences and answer questions from current students who are interested in following similar career paths.

Recently, four Central Catholic alumni in the field of law met via Zoom with several current CCHS students.  The alumni are:

  • Phil Carlisle, Class of 2002 – defense attorney in Toledo, University of Toledo College of Law graduate

  • J. Dugan Delp, Class of 2014 – third year law student at University of Notre Dame Law School, will work for Husch Blackwell in Chicago after graduation in the spring

  • Tom Kirkham, Class of 2007 – Associate Attorney at Anspach Meeks Ellenberger LLP in Toledo, University of Toledo College of Law graduate

  • James Tafelski, Class of 2008 – attorney in the criminal division of the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office, earned law degree from University of Cincinnati

In October, Central Catholic students had an opportunity to attend a Zoom career panel with recent graduates who currently work in the medical field.  Dr. Arika Knannlein, Class of 2011, is currently an OBGYN resident at Mercy St. Vincent, and she shared with our students her journey through medical school and discovering her love of women's health and surgery.

Also on the call were Morgan (Gaudet) Smith, Class of 2012, paramedic and cardiovascular technologist in Lima, Ohio; and Casey (Boyle) Smith, Class of 2010, registered nurse who formerly worked in ProMedica's Heart and Vascular ICU and is now the CCHS school nurse.  The students were grateful for the opportunity to learn what it takes to achieve their career dreams.

The original plan for this career panel was to invite members of various professions to Central Catholic throughout the year, both individually and in a career fair, and to send students out into the field to observe these careers in action.  With the onset of COVID-19, we had to adjust our plans.

Fortunately, one of Central Catholic's greatest assets is our alumni community, composed of thousands of individuals who have found meaning and success in their work.  Many of these younger and successful alumni live in Toledo, but many live around the world, too.  Thanks to Zoom, we have been able to have young, successful alumni, both near and far, share their experiences with and answer questions from interested students.  These individuals have recently walked a similar journey as our students, and are now willing to give up their time to help, inspire, and direct them.

Central Catholic plans to offer future career panels with alumni in fields such as business, healthcare, and more.
