16 Football Players Collect All-Northwest District Recognition
Sixteen members of the Central Catholic football team have been named to the All-Northwest District Division II squad, as selected by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association media panel from the district. CCHS’s 16 honorees are the most by any school, regardless of division.
The Fighting Irish, who won their fourth-straight Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) championship this fall, had nine first-team selections. That list included senior LB Chris Jackson, who was selected D-II District Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Greg Dempsey also earned Coach of the Year recognition.
Joining Jackson on the first team were senior WR Sam Lee, senior OL Brent Rombach, senior OL Mar'Tieon Adams, senior DL Dylan Fisher, senior DB Peyton Reasonover, senior P Cole Tishler, junior RB Chris Edmonds and junior DL Tyler Jackson.
Three Fighting Irish also garnered second-team honors - junior QB Ty’Waun Clark, senior TE Josh Lee and junior DB Braden Awls, while four others collected honorable mention accolades - senior WR Khaleb Carter, sophomore DL Michael Cannings, junior LB Cody Schuberg and senior DB Desmond Yarger.
Central Catholic (11-2) will return to the gridiron against seventh-ranked Avon (11-2) on Friday, Nov. 19 in the Region 6 Finals of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II State Playoffs. The opening kick against the Eagles is slated for 7 pm at Strobel Field at Sandusky High School. Presale tickets are $10. All tickets purchased tomorrow after 4 pm will be $12. All Central Catholic students must purchase a ticket to attend the game. In addition, SHS is going to charge $5 for parking.
