3 Fighting Irish Garner All-Northwest District Division II Laurels

Three members of the Central Catholic girls’ basketball team have been selected to the All-Northwest District Division II squad. The teams were selected by a panel representing the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association based on nominations from high school coaches.

Highlighting the Fighting Irish’s selections was junior Brooklyn Vaughn, who was tabbed co-Player of the Year. Vaughn shared top player honors with Liberty-Benton’s Lauren Gerken. A 5-foot-11 forward, Vaughn averaged 15.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game, totaling 19 double-doubles. Earlier this year, Vaughn was named the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) and All-District 7 Player of the Year.

In addition, junior Corniya Clay garnered 2nd-team honors, while senior Jai’Lynne Hitt-Swartz received honorable mention accolades.

Ranked No. 3 in the final Associated Press D-II state poll, the Scarlet & Gray finished with a 22-2 overall ledger and a 13-1 mark in the TRAC, capturing its 2nd-straight conference championship in the league’s final season.
