5 Boys’ Basketball Hoopsters Collect All-District 7 Division II Recognition

Five members of the state-ranked Central Catholic boys’ basketball team have been named to the All-District 7 Division II squad. The Fighting Irish’s 5 selections are tied for the most by any school in D-II with Rossford. In addition, Head Coach Mike Floyd garnered Coach of the Year accolades.

Ranked No. 6 in the final Associated Press D-II state poll, Central Catholic currently sports a 19-4 overall record. The Scarlet & Gray also posted an 11-3 mark in the final season of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, capturing a share of the league championship.

Senior Michael Greenlee Jr. and junior Isaiah Brenneman were both awarded a spot on the 1st team, sophomore Makhi Leach was tabbed to the 2nd team, and senior Ty’Waun Clark and senior Noah Langford each collected honorable mention accolades.

The trio of Greenlee, Leach, and Coach Floyd are earning all-district recognition for the 2nd-straight year.

Central Catholic returns to the hardwood against No. 5 seed Port Clinton on Thursday, March 2 in the District Semifinal at 8 pm at Lake High School. The Fighting Irish will battle the Redskins for the 3rd-straight year in the state tourney. CCHS won both previous postseason matchups, claiming a 50-20 victory in the 2021 Sectional Final at home and a 50-29 triumph in last year’s District Semifinal at Lake.

Tickets for tomorrow’s neutral-court contest MUST be pre-purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Basketball, Basketball – Boys, Division II, Region 6, Northwest 1, Find Game, Get Tickets). General admission tickets cost $6 for students and $8 for adults. Please note, all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend the game.

If the Fighting Irish defeat the Redskins on Thursday, they will play the winner of Rossford vs. Wauseon in the District Final on Saturday, March 4 at 7 pm at Lake.

The district’s top seed for the 2nd-straight season, Central Catholic has advanced in tourney play with an 80-49 victory against Rogers in the Sectional Final at Bowsher High School.
