Alumnus Matt Schroeder Named Interim President at University of Toledo

Alumnus Matt Schroeder (Class of 1993) was recently named Interim President at the University of Toledo, effective May 20.  He succeeds Dr. Gregory Postel, who is moving on to become the Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.   Schroeder has been serving as Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer at UToledo since July 2019.

“I’m honored the Trustees have placed their confidence in me to lead UToledo during a time of great opportunity for this university as we rise to the current challenges facing higher education and healthcare while setting ourselves apart as a leader,” said Schroeder, a 2-year letterwinner on the Fighting Irish baseball team.  “I understand the importance of UToledo to our students, to our patients, to our faculty, to our staff, and to the greater Toledo community.  We are committed to not just maintaining but enhancing our status as an excellent public research university and academic medical center.”

As CFO, Schroeder has overseen UToledo’s offices of finance, budget and planning, facilities and construction, auxiliaries, information technology, human resources, public safety, and internal audit and compliance.  He previously served for 8 years as the UToledo Foundation’s Vice President of Real Estate and Business Development.  During his tenure, the university redeveloped the southwest corner of the main campus and transformed 230 acres of the health science campus.

Schroeder also worked as chief operating officer of the University of Toledo Foundation, as well as former UToledo President Sharon Gaber’s chief of staff.  Under Gaber, he was a part of the university’s senior leadership team, focusing on government relations and UToledo’s response to critical issues.

Schroeder has an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Toledo College of Business and Innovation.
