Boys’ Basketball Defeats Port Clinton in Division II District Semifinals, 69-48

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team secured a 69-48 win against No. 5 seed Port Clinton in the Division II District Semifinals on Thursday at Lake High School. With the neutral-court win, state ranked CCHS improves to 20-4 overall.

Ranked No. 6 in the final Associated Press D-II state poll, the Fighting Irish defeated the Redskins for the 3rd-straight year in the postseason tournament.  

Sophomore Makhi Leach paced No. 1 seed Central Catholic with 18 points on the strength of 4 triples.

Junior Isaiah Brenneman added 12 points for the Scarlet & Gray, while senior Michael Greenlee Jr. and classmate Ty’Waun Clark had 9 and 7 points, respectively. In total, 10 Fighting Irish found the scoring column against their Sandusky Bay Conference opponent.

Adam Thorbahn led the Redskins (14-11) with a game-high 23 points, followed by Owen Auxter with 12 points.

Central Catholic will now face No. 2 seed Rossford (20-4) in the District Finals on Saturday, March 4 at 7 pm at Lake. The Bulldogs advanced to tomorrow’s matchup on the heels of a 38-21 triumph vs. No. 3 seed Wauseon (16-8). CCHS and Rossford will square off in the postseason for the 2nd time in the last 3 years. Back in 2021, Central Catholic registered a 59-58 win against the Bulldogs in the District Semifinals at Lake.
