Boys’ Basketball Loses to Gilmour Academy in Regional Semifinal, 65-54

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team suffered a 65-54 loss against Gilmour Academy on Thursday in the Division II Regional Semifinal at the Stroh Center. With the neutral-court loss on the campus of Bowling Green State University, ninth-ranked CCHS finishes the season with a 20-6 overall record.

The Fighting Irish fell behind 12-0 at the outset and could not recover versus the Lancers, falling in the regional semifinal for the second-straight season.

2021-22 All-Northwest Ohio District D-II Player of the Year junior Chico Johnson paced the Scarlet & Gray with 16 points, while freshman Makhi Leach contributed 13 off the bench. The Fighting Irish also benefited from eight points by junior Ty'Waun Clark as a reserve.

Central Catholic shot 41.1 percent (21-of-51) from the field, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the charity stripe.

Gilmour Academy (21-5) was led by Brandon Rose's 16 points, followed by Nathan Flaherty with 12.

Thursday’s game marked the final contest for CCHS’s four-member senior class – Dylan Fisher, Josh Lee, Sam Lee and Micah Thames.
