Boys’ Basketball Loses to TRAC Rival Lima Senior in Home Finale, 56-52

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team suffered a tough 56-52 setback against Lima Senior on Friday in the Sullivan Center. With the loss in its home finale, CCHS falls to 16-4 overall, 8-4 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

The Fighting Irish, ranked No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press Division II state poll, had a chance to tie the score in the waning seconds of regulation, but a three-point shot by junior Chico Johnson was off the mark.

Senior Micah Thames led Central Catholic with 16 points, followed closely by classmate Sam Lee with 15.

Cam Miles paced the visiting Spartans (16-2, 11-1 TRAC) with a game-high 25 points, while Kahlil Luster added 11. With the win over the Fighting Irish and a Whitmer loss this evening, Lima Senior secured at least a share of the TRAC title.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team registered a 40-39 victory against Lima Senior, while the junior varsity squad dropped a 48-36 decision.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against TRAC foe Fremont Ross on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Freshman will begin the action versus the Little Giants at 4:45 pm in the “Purple Pit,” followed by the junior varsity and varsity at 6 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. Back on Jan. 4, the Fighting Irish secured a 71-48 triumph vs. Fremont Ross at home. Tickets are available at www.littlegiantathletics.com/tickets/.
