Boys’ Basketball Outlasts Rival St. Francis de Sales on Road, 45-36

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team kept its Three Rivers Athletic Conference championship aspirations alive with a 45-36 victory against rival St. Francis de Sales on Tuesday in “The Pit.” With the road win, CCHS improves to 15-4 overall, 9-3 in the league.

The state-ranked Fighting Irish currently sit 2nd in the TRAC, 1 game behind frontrunner Whitmer (13-7, 10-2 TRAC) with 2 league-contests remaining.

Sophomore Makhi Leach paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 15 points vs. the Knights, followed closely by junior Isaiah Brenneman with 14 points.

Elvis Syroka and Jameson Heck each had 11 points to lead host St. Francis de Sales (12-8, 5-7 TRAC).

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team suffered a 41-34 loss against the Knights, while the junior varsity squad sustained a 56-44 road setback.

Ranked No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press Division II state poll, Central Catholic returns to the hardwood versus Whitmer on Friday, Feb. 10. The opening tip vs. the Panthers is scheduled for 7:30 pm in the Sullivan Center. Tickets for Friday’s 1st-place showdown MUST be pre-purchased online at bit.ly/3EjJhky. Back on Jan. 10, CCHS dropped a 56-45 decision vs. Whitmer in the Whitmer Field House.
