Boys’ Basketball Picked to Finish 3rd in TRAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The Blade recently released its annual Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys' basketball preseason poll and Central Catholic has been picked to finish 3rd, according to voting from the league's 8 head coaches.

The Fighting Irish received 1 1st-place vote and 45 points, trailing Whitmer and 4-time reigning TRAC champion Lima Senior. The Panthers collected 6 of 8 1st-place votes and totaled 61 of a possible 64 voting points to stand atop the standings in the TRAC’s final season.

St. John’s Jesuit was projected to finish 4th, followed by Findlay, Fremont Ross, St. Francis de Sales, and Clay.

A season ago, the Fighting Irish posted a 20-6 overall record, 9-5 in the league. Fifth-year head coach Mike Floyd guided CCHS to a 2nd-straight district title for the 1st time in program history. Individually, Central Catholic returns 4 starters from last winter, including 1st-team All-TRAC honoree senior Chico Johnson and honorable mention selection senior Michael Greenlee Jr., along with junior Isaiah Brenneman, and sophomore Makhi Leach.

CCHS is scheduled to open its 2022-23 season at perennial power St. Vincent-St. Mary on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 pm as part of the East-West Invitational. The Fighting Irish’s home opener will take place on Friday, Dec. 16 vs. arch-rival St. John’s at 7:30 pm in the newly remodeled Sullivan Center.  Tickets are available online at www.centralcatholic.org/tickets or www.hometownticketing.com. Reminder, tickets MUST be purchased online.
