Boys’ Basketball Pulls Away Late vs. TRAC Rival Whitmer at Home, 53-48

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team pulled out a 53-48 victory against Whitmer on Tuesday in the Sullivan Center. With the hard-fought win, CCHS improves to 10-2 overall, 5-2 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

Junior Michael Greenlee Jr. led the fifth-ranked Fighting Irish with a game-high 21 points. Greenlee took the game over in the pivotal fourth quarter, scoring 13 of the Scarlet & Gray’s 15 points to help them successfully bounce back from Friday’s loss to Lima Senior.

Junior Chico Johnson also contributed 11 points in the home victory, freshman Mekhi Leach nearly posted a double-double with nine points and a contest-best nine caroms and sophomore Isaiah Brenneman had seven points.

Antoine West paced the Panthers (6-3, 4-2 TRAC) with 15 points, followed by Steven McCoy with nine. The five-point loss snapped Whitmer's four-game winning streak.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team suffered a 41-21 setback against Whitmer, while the junior varsity squad claimed a 39-28 triumph.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against TRAC foe Oregon Clay on Friday, Jan. 14. Freshman will begin the action at 4:45 pm versus the Eagles in the Sullivan Center, followed by the junior varsity and varsity at 6 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. Earlier this season, the Fighting Irish secured a resounding 59-32 win at Clay on Dec. 3 in the Potter Field House.
