Boys’ Basketball Suffers 57-47 Loss vs. Rival St. John’s Jesuit at Home

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team were defeated, 57-47, by rival St. John’s Jesuit on Tuesday in the Sullivan Center. With the home loss, CCHS falls to 6-11 overall, 0-7 in the Catholic High School League.

Sophomore Manny Johnson paced the Fighting Irish with 18 points. The Scarlet & Gray’s next highest scorer was junior D’Haron Flowers with 7 points.

Race Kowalczyk led the Titans (12-6, 5-3 CHSL) with a game-high 20 points, followed closely by Jaylen Murphy and Joseph Taylor each with 15 points. The aforementioned trio of Kowalczyk, Murphy, and Taylor accounted for 50 of the 57 points, helping SJJ sweep the regular-season series against CCHS.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team suffered a 38-24 loss vs. St. John’s Jesuit, while the junior varsity squad sustained a 42-23 home setback.

The Fighting Irish will return to action against the University of Detroit Jesuit on Friday, February 2 at 7 p.m. in the UDJ Main Gym. Admission is $7 at the gate. Please note, there is no pre-sale on tickets.
