Boys’ Basketball Suffers 82-67 Loss at CHSL Power Brother Rice

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team suffered an 82-67 loss against Brother Rice on Tuesday in the Brother Rice Gym.  With the road setback, CCHS falls to 8-6 overall, 3-3 in the Catholic High School League.

The Fighting Irish trailed 48-33 against the Warriors (15-1, 5-1 CHSL) at halftime.  They fought back and made it a 2-possession contest midway through the 4th quarter, but the visitors could not get any closer, dropping their 4th-straight game.

Junior Manny Johnson paced Central Catholic with 19 points, followed closely by sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell with 17 points.

Central Catholic also benefited from 13 points from junior Draden Wardrop and 10 points by sophomore Cayden Kynard vs. Michigan’s top-ranked squad.

Greg Grays led a balanced Brother Rice team with a game-high 21 points.  They also received double-digit points from David Williams (16 pts.), Jacob Lamb (13 pts.), Jeremiah Caffey (11 pts.), and Trevor Smith (10 pts).

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshmen team dropped a 61-51 decision vs. Brother Rice, while the junior varsity squad suffered a 72-64 setback.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against De La Salle Collegiate on Friday, January 31, starting with the freshmen game at 4 p.m. in the Bill Fox Gymnasium.  Tickets can be purchased by clicking HERE.
