Boys’ Basketball Torches Clay in Non-League Road Game, 75-49
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team rang in the new year with an emphatic 75-49 victory against Clay on Friday in the Harold Potter Field House. With the non-league road win, CCHS improves to 6-1 on the season.
The Fighting Irish outscored the host Eagles 39-18 in the 2nd half to help them surpass the 70-point mark for the 3rd time this year.
Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell paced 3 Fighting Irish in double figures with 19 points. A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell has now led the team in scoring in all but 1 contest this season.
Junior Manny Johnson added 18 points and classmate Draden Wardrop contributed 12 points in Friday’s matchup. In total, 10 CCHS players found the scoring column.
Dom Pegish led Clay with a game-high 22 points, but its next highest scorer was Carson Vincent with 9 points.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team claimed a 46-25 victory vs. Clay, while the junior varsity squad secured a 59-30 triumph.
Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against St. Mary’s Preparatory School on Tuesday, January 7, starting with the freshmen game at 4:45 p.m. in the Sullivan Center. Tickets for Tuesday’s CHSL contest can be purchased at bit.ly/3EjJhky.
