Girls’ Basketball Dials Long Distance to Defeat Sylvania Southview, 67-42
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team knocked down a whopping 12 three-point field goals en route to posting a 67-42 victory against Sylvania Southview on Monday in the Southview Gym. With the convincing non-conference win, CCHS improves to 18-1 on the season.
Senior Brinn Hunt paced the visiting Fighting Irish with a squad-tying best three triples and a game-high 15 points.
Sophomore Brooklyn Vaughn added 13 points, classmate Corniya Clay had 12, junior Mary Ellis chipped in 10 and junior Ja’Lynne Hitt-Swartz contributed nine, helping the Scarlet & Gray successfully bounce back from its first loss of the season on Saturday.
Paige Brown and Julia Williams led the host Cougars with 12 points each.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity suffered a hard fought 24-22 setback vs. Southview.
Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against Three Rivers Athletic Conference rival Whitmer on Thursday, Feb. 10. The junior varsity game will begin at 5 pm in the Sullivan Center, followed by the varsity contest at 6:30 pm. The Fighting Irish will honor its three seniors – Brinn Hunt, Jen Pryer and Anabelle Gogol – prior to the start of the varsity game. Tickets are available at https://www.centralcatholic.org/tickets.
