Central Catholic Flexes Muscles at Division II Wrestling Sectional Championship

The Central Catholic wrestling team competed in the Division II Sectional Championship on Saturday at Clyde High School.  Five Fighting Irish placed in the Top 3, securing a spot in the upcoming District Championship.

Overall, the Scarlet & Gray finished in 6th place among 12 teams at the 1-day event. Highlighting Central Catholic’s efforts was a 1st-place finish by sophomore Brendan Zapadka at 106 pounds. Seeded No. 2 in his weight class, Zapadka went a perfect 3-0 to claim the championship.

In addition, senior Emilio Herrera and sophomore Joel Osbourne placed runner-up at 120 and 138 pounds, while junior Luke Andrews and sophomore Alex Guerra finished 3rd at 165 and 126 pounds, respectively.

Herrera will advance to the district meet for the 3rd-consecutive year, while Guerra and Osbourne will move on for the 2nd-straight season.

Central Catholic will return to the mat for the District Championship on Friday-Saturday, February 28-March 1 at Norwalk High School.  Friday’s action will commence at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s competition will begin at 9 a.m.

Tickets for this weekend’s district tournament MUST be purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Wrestling, Wrestling – Boys, Division II, February 28 &/or March 1, Find Norwalk High School, Get Tickets).  General admission tickets cost $5 for students and $8 for adults.  Please note, all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend the competition.
