Central Catholic Repeats as “Best Private School” in Northwest Ohio
Central Catholic High School has repeated the honor of being named “Best Private School” in Northwest Ohio in the Toledo City Paper’s Best of Toledo 2021. Readers of the Toledo City Paper voted for their favorites in categories that included shops, services, professionals, health and wellness, food, art, media, music, and community. This is the 22nd year the newspaper has been running this contest, and they had hundreds of thousands of votes across 250 categories for 2021.
Central Catholic is honored to have been chosen by the community for this distinction after being voted the “Best Private School” in Northwest Ohio for 2020. The school was also named “Best Private High School” in last year's inaugural Blade Readers' Choice Awards.
”CCHS is thrilled to be announced as the back-to-back recipient of the 'Best Private School' in NW Ohio,” Head of School Kevin Parkins said. “This recognition would not be possible without the amazing work of our faculty, staff, and administration. Each day, they help create 'a special place on Cherry Street!”
“It is a great honor for Central Catholic to be recognized by Toledo City Paper as our region’s Best Private School, especially in back-to-back years,” said Central Catholic Board Chairman, Gary Thompson. “I think the designation is a testament to the work our students, teachers, faculty, and staff do every day toward academic achievement, faith formation, artistic expression, and athletic competition. Central Catholic is a special place on Cherry Street and proud to be a Toledo institution serving the educational needs of our region for over 100 years.”
Senior Amaar Zarrieff said, “It’s so great to see my school receive the recognition that it deserves. The CCHS community is like a family, picking up one another if someone falls down. The honor of receiving Best Private School means a lot to me because the rest of Toledo is finally realizing how amazing the school on Cherry Street really is.”
“This honor means so much to me because CCHS is finally getting the credit it deserves!” added senior Bella Spinazze. “Central Catholic is truly the best place on earth and has impacted me in ways that I never thought a school could. Because of the students, teachers, clubs, and classes CCHS has to offer, I look forward to coming to school every single day, and this building is my home. God has blessed me immensely with the opportunity to attend Central Catholic, and with this honor I hope many more kids will get to experience an education at the best private school in Toledo!”
“Being voted Best Private School by the community is an honor, yet in no way is it a surprise,” said Kim Bremer, chair of the Central Catholic science department and the National Honor Society. “Having been a part of Central Catholic for 28 years, hearing the stories from my mother who is a 1962 graduate, and having my kids attend and graduate from here, it's nice to see that the community understands what a special place it truly is. Students who are a part of the Irish Family are exposed to great academics, clubs, and athletics, and know that they are a part of something bigger than themselves. For over a century, Central Catholic High School has been a cornerstone of the Toledo community. It is one of the largest co-educational, college prep Catholic high schools in Ohio. Our extensive programs provide something for every ability and interest. We celebrate our diversity and recognize how diversity in the school environment helps build well-rounded students prepared for the real world.
Central Catholic offers nearly 100 merit and need-based scholarships, and we have awarded an average of $1.4 million in scholarships and financial aid over the last three years. Our challenging academics, successful athletic programs, opportunities for faith formation and spiritual wellness, history of excellence in visual and performing arts, and our famous Irish Spirit have made Central Catholic “CENTRAL” to the lives of our students, families, and alumni.
