Football Set to Tackle Revere in 2nd Round of OHSAA Division III State Playoffs at Home
The Central Catholic football team will entertain Revere on Friday, November 8 in the 2nd round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III State Playoffs. The opening kick against the Minutemen (7-4) is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium.
The Fighting Irish (10-1) are the No. 1 seed in Region 10, while Revere is the No. 9 seed.
Tickets for Friday’s postseason contest MUST be pre-purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Division III, Click Region 10, Locate Game, Click Get Tickets). Tickets will cost $5 for students and $11 for adults. Please note, no tickets will be available to purchase at the gate and all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend Friday’s game. The Scarlet & Gray, which ranked No. 2 in the final Associated Press Division III State Poll, advanced to the 2nd round for the 14th-straight year following a dominating 49-14 victory against No. 16 Lutheran West (2-9) at home.
Central Catholic scored early and often vs. the Longhorns to force a running clock in the 2nd half. A total of 7 different players found the end zone. The 2-time reigning state champions tallied 4 TDs in the 1st quarter, 2 in the 2nd period, and 1 in the 3rd stanza to surpass 40 points for the 4th time this fall.
Senior QB Isaiah Fox completed 5-of-8 passes for 141 yards and a season-tying best 3 TDs. The team captain also registered a TD on the ground. Back on September 20, he tossed 3 TD passes vs. De La Salle Collegiate.
Overall this fall, Fox is 88-of-133 passing (66.2%) for 1,392 yards and 13 TDs, senior RB Tyler Morgan has accumulated 1,050 yards on 189 carries (5.6 ypg) and 12 TDs, while junior WR Preston Fryzel has hauled in 30 catches for 497 yards and 5 scores.
A member of the Suburban League American Division, Revere moved on to the 2nd round following a 34-28 road victory against No. 8 seed Copley.
Central Catholic and Revere will meet on the gridiron for the 1st time.
CCHS will be making its 21st-straight playoff appearance under Head Coach Greg Dempsey and 26th overall in school history. Central Catholic has a 52-17 post-season record under Coach Dempsey with 5 state titles (2005, ‘12, ’14, ’22, ‘23) and a state runner-up finish (2015). They are looking to become only the 13th school in Ohio history to secure 3 straight state titles.
Should the Fighting Irish advance to the Region 10 Semifinals, they would face either No. 4 seed Rocky River (8-3) or No. 12 seed Lexington (6-5) on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. at a neutral site.
