Track & Field Thrives at Division II District Championship

The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams competed at the Division II District Championship on Thursday and Saturday at Oak Harbor High School.

The Fighting Irish girls’ squad finished third among 12 schools with 92 points, while the boys’ team also placed third amidst 13 programs with 98 points.

The girls’ team secured seven first-place finishes at the two-day meet, while the boys’ team captured the top spot in six events. The Top 4 finishers in each event qualify for this week’s Regional Championship.

On the girls’ side, senior Tianna Davis was a part of a team-high four first-place finishes. Individually, Davis crossed the finish line first in the 200-meter dash (26.12). She was also a member of the winning team in the 4x100-meter relay (48.70), 4x200-meter relay (1:42.80) and 4x400-meter relay (4:02.20).

Also capturing first-place finishes for the girls’ squad in individual events were freshman Nyla King in the 100-meter dash (12.50), junior Jayla Watson in the 300-meter hurdles (47.39) and junior Mary Ellis in the 400-meter dash (57.83).

In the relay’s, sophomore Taylor Scribner, King and Ellis were each part of two winning teams.

On the boys’ side, senior Sam Lee recorded a squad-best four first-place finishes. Individually, Lee finished ahead of the competition in the 400-meter dash (50.03) and high jump (6’4”). He also ran a leg of the victorious 4x-200-meter relay (1:27.97) and 4x400-meter relay (3:21.06).

In addition, junior Solomon King placed first in both the 100- (10.98) and 200-meter dashes (22.86) and ran the third leg of the victorious 4x200-meter relay.

In the relay’s, senior Josh Lee and classmate Jacob King were a part of two victorious squads.

The Fighting Irish will return to the track on Thursday, May 26 for the Division II Regional Championship at Lexington High School. The event is slated to begin at 4 pm. The second day of the regional meet will take place on Saturday, May 28 at 11 am.
