Boys’ Basketball Torches Fremont Ross in TRAC Game, 71-48

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team opened the 2022 calendar year with an emphatic 71-48 victory against Fremont Ross on Tuesday in the Sullivan Center. With the impressive home win, CCHS improves to 9-1 overall, 4-1 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

Junior Chico Johnson paced the Fighting Irish with a season-high 29 points and 10 boards to post a double-double. Also scoring in double figures for the Associated Press Division II second ranked Scarlet & Gray was junior Michael Greenlee, Jr. (12 points), freshman Makhi Leach (11 points) and senior Micah Thames (10 points).

Ayden Carter led the visiting Little Giants (4-5, 2-3 TRAC) with 14 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team registered a resounding 63-36 win against Fremont Ross, while the junior varsity squad claimed a 49-29 triumph.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against TRAC preseason favorite Lima Senior on Friday, Jan. 7. Freshman will tip off at 6 pm versus the Spartans at the Gym at Lima Senior High School, followed by varsity at 7:30 pm. Friday’s junior varsity game between the Irish and Spartans has been canceled.
